for some reason my 03 viper with only 800 miles on it wont start good anymore when she is cold . if it sits overnight you have to pull it over about 20-30 times and still no fire ,even if you crack the throttle the same .
but once its running all is good on a hot motor just crack the throttle and pull once or twice and she starts. pulled over and had a few drinks and some eats about 2 hours later samething. temps dropped a bit and it would not start
had to pull about 20 times then all was ok. this never happed before not
sure whats up.. i had a dealer install 2 in riser with all new cables maybe they didnt set cables up right ????? what do you guys think. :o| :yam:

:die:
:die: to the kittys

Russ sounds like somethings a miss with the choke cable. Is it hooked up to the carbs, sitting on the sled it will be on the lower right side of the carbs. Is set up right, pull the lever to the first notch, there should be a little play there no more than 1/16". Double check that the plungers are being pulled out from the carbs when using the choke. Hope this helps.

Hard start

If I'm going to stop for a bite, before I hit the kill switch I'll pull the choke for a second....It starts good every time after that 1-2-3 hours.....
This was on my old sled my new one I only pull cord out bout 2/3 way and she fires ..... :yam:

mine has done the same thing to me on two occasions the latest was today on my anniversary my wife and i were to ride up to a place called granite hot springs this is the second time that this has happened at this exact same place i was told had water in fuel but i used additive got home parked in garage for 2hrs started right up

when i move the choke and watch the carbs i see a bar that slides back and
forth with the choke movement

make sure the bar is actually hooked to the choke plungers in the carbs.

You might also want to check the fuel pump fix in the tech section. Mine had very similar symptoms, did the fuel pump fix and no more problems. Very quick and easy to do. Not sure its you problem, but worth looking into.

I would definetly check into the fuel pump fix, snow gets in there when engine is warm, no big deal. Snow freezes overnight and fuel pump won't work. I've had the update done but also bought a filter screen from mountain performance. About 600 miles this winter no problems

yup as these guys said look into that fuel pump. Very common and often overlooked.

what is the fix that you guys are refering to. is it moving the fuel pump because i have for the last two tanks been running de-icer and mine would not start yesterday
thanks in advance

you can use some washers to shim the fuel pump higher up off the frame so that water can't sit between it and the frame, that helps a lot.

^^^^ I did what haolic is reffering to and never had a problem. I got the info from the tech pages it was a TSB from yamaha and that is what they had dealers do if people complained of it.
