Hi I have a 98 700 srx it had wiseco pro-lite piston's. When I tore it apart the exhaust side of the piston. The space between the ring's colapsed.Has any one had this problem. I know the 77srx had a problem with the bust port's doing this. Thank's Dan

I've never seen that before,,but when you put her back together make
shure you use OEM piston there better than wiseco by far.

I wouldn't say that the OEM pistons are better than Wiseco pro-lites. However, I do agree that the OEM pistons are way more forgiving than a forged piston which makes them a very good choice for a snowmobile engine. The Wiseco pro-lite forged piston is a very high quality product, but it does have a smaller tolerance range and must be warmed up slowly in a cold engine.

That said, the OEM Yamaha pistons are usually the best choice for the recreational snowmobile engine.

IMOH people that have problems with Weiscos dont have them clearanced properly or give them time to warm up. Oem's are great, but Weiscos arent bad either.

Hi I got the sled from a guy in mn he had it over hauld at yamaha dealer it had 50 mile's no it. I let it worm up for five min. got 30 mile's on it and it died.Thank's Dan.

I seem to remember someone telling me that Weisco pistons expand at a different rate than OEM's and therefore piston clearance and ring gaps need to be a little more. If its to tight once it warms up you'll have issues such as yours.

if its smeared the ringlands closed its lean somewhere, if its a cold seize problem from not letting it warm up, it will show up as a 4 corner seizeure, will have marks in all 4 corners, if its just the exh front side, its lean somewhere in the range.

wiseco

i have seen wisecos seize on a warm engine caused by inproper clearance and rate of expantionon the piston expands at a faster rate than the block so to get ride of that problem u need to swan tec the pistons and the heads then the problem goes away as far as lean conditions go use dial ajet then the condition is fixed 2 if u are going to start messimng around with aftermarket pipes and porting messing with timing then use exhaust gages so u can moniture temp. an example u go with a full ported job and punch out trasfer ports on the vmax4800 then ur stock fuel noozles for mid range are boarder line lean and should be changed up and most will not know that unless u have exhaust gage they will allways go tothe main jet when the problem is midrange this swan tec stuff has been proven on the dyno under full load a member from vmax4,com site has had full swan teced pistons and heads on a turboed vmax4 that just set a newspeed record at sri drag strip on ice that was set by a 1500cc full moded doo , the info shared with me on exhaust temp with out burn down was well over 1700 , so when i asked him about opinion of the swan tec pistons and head his reply highly recommended and those where by thoughts before that test even started but backed it up by the dyno and u are able to watch on a graph as its happening and the sled is fullyengaged in riding conditions as u sit and watch it, don,t know if u have heard or seen but the tra doo clutch on the big horsepower yamaha sleds are good for another 10 miles per hour plus over the yamaha clutch u may have to do some maching to make it fit. again a member off vmax4.com has run this set up on the 800 making around 230 hp . his gain is 14 miles per hour faster in 660ft more than he could even get on yamaha clutch, his best run with the yamaha clutch was 101 660. this same guy is now working on the srx with this set up and is going well but does, ent bother with numbers any more cause he allready proved that with the big max, that is the fist change he makes is the clutch. primary skidoo clutch runs less angle on the sheaves Al LARSON

Wiseco Pro lites are great pistons.

Yes they are different than stock, but they also weigh less than stock and are forged instead of cast. You do need to let them warm up a little more, but I have not had any issues that were the prolite's fault. While I have not used any pro lites in a yamaha, I have in Polaris' and in doo's.
