Okay, for the sled head mechnics here, who has the best tricks for removal & installation ideas for a 93 Phazer2 121" track?
Have a 04 Camoplast track to convert wifes sled & am looking for the "best" free advice based on experience with in the Yamaha guys here for this project.
I understand that I will get what I "pay for", LOL, but I am sure that in this broad based group of guys, there are some "sweet tricks" to learn for this little project. Have never done it before & since I now have the track & a free weekend coming up & snow to ride, I figured I better "git er done". Have a sled lift, tools, some patience, etc. so should I plan on working for many hours or ???. Will be doing it solo & want to avoid as much
as I can!!!!
Thanks a bunch, Rob

With the sled sitting on the ground, remove the upper attaching bolt from both shocks and the limiter strap bolt. You can lay across the seat or have someone sit on the sled to pull out the rear shock bolt. -Lets the suspension swing free and you won't have to fight it to get the bolts out or in. Do the rest of the work with the sled on it's side -much easier to stand up and work.
Get yourself an impact gun to take the bolts out of the pivot points of your suspension (the bolts that go through the tunnel). If you use a ratchet your going to probably have one or more that won't "crack" loose because the shaft they are threaded into spins instead of the bolt coming out of the shaft. "Crack" each bolt loose with the impact gun first then remove them. If one still doesn't come loose, tighten the one opposite and then go back to the one that didn't come loose and try'er again.
Other than that, the first reply had some good advice about taking the shocks and limiter straps loose also.

Tipping the sled on it's side to get the skid out seemed to work best for us. When putting it back together... Get one side started... then work on the other... then tighten
If you are changing tracks... not sure on the Phazer, but you will have to remove the drive shaft (below the secondary clutch) so you can get the old track off the drivers and the new track back on. This will be the most time consuming part of the job.

And make sure the track is facing the right direction when you put it on - there may be an arrow on it.
