Hey guys, I've been lurking around the site for awhile but this is my first post. A few of us are getting together next weekend for an afternoon of 660 ft racing and was just wondering how I'll make out against a stock 2005 F7? He's pretty yappy, so it would be nice to shut him up but everything I've read on the F7 is saying that they really rip. My 98' is stock except for lower gearing, Bender transfer rods, some clutch work and an 1 1/4 inch track and runs dead even with my brothers 05' RX1 [at least for a 1/4 mile anyway, never tried any further]
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

If your running dead even with a rx1 i think you need to do some adjusting to run that f7 i would think a srx should walk away from a rx1

Don't know for a fact...have heard the 2003 F7's are the fastest ones. The newer ones with the direct drive or diamond drive as they call it are said to be slower.
I've successfully raced F7's. Concentrate on getting off the line well and he won't catch you.
Good luck

i have also beat f7s but my sled also take a rx1 iahacker how do you run against a rx1
One of the guys I go sledding with has an older 03' RX1 and I can beat up on him pretty good but have trouble with my brother's new revised 05'. I've also run against an older Vmax 800 several times that's geared lower, has some clutch work done and has 1 1/4 track on it but otherwise stock. I can pull the 800 by 1/2 a length out of the hole and then it stays that way till we let off.
Thanks for the tip iahacker!!iahacker said:Don't know for a fact...have heard the 2003 F7's are the fastest ones. The newer ones with the direct drive or diamond drive as they call it are said to be slower.

I've only seen one RX-1 around here. It was last year before I had my SRX. This year we haven't had any snow for the last six weeks and the ice has already gone out of the river so likely won't see one this year either. We are headed to the UP this weekend. If I get a chance I will try to run against one to see what happens...but only on hard pack. If it's powdery snow or bare ice, I know the SRX will suck. Got the stock track with 192 trail studs.

That would be great!! Very much appreciated!!! My brothers 05' RX1 scoots pretty good compared to my friends 03' RX1, due to the fact that the 03' just doesn't seem to hook very well, and I guess being about 30lbs heavier wouldn't help it any either.

I wouldn't think an 1 1/4" track would slow you down in 660'. In fact I would think it would help you get better hook up that is important in that short distance. If you were racing a longer distance where top end was important then I would say go with a lower lug ht.

1.25 track wiegths more any moving mass slows you down it is said that 1 pound of moving mass is equal to 7 pounds of weight off your sled a 1.25 will slow you down quite a bit compared to a speed track dont matter if your running 660 or 2000 weight is weight

If you are going to run a short race, a 1.25 lug is better off then a racing track on hard pack. The lighter track will give you much higher top speeds but will not grab as hard as a 1.25 lug track on hard pack. Smaller lug track will not grip the snow.

i know this topic has been beet to death several times, but a 1.25 track does not hurt your top end by all that much if any. its people that dont take out their protectors and cause track rub that slows them down. and as bruce said, 1.25 track for a 660 race on hard pack is the best track hands down.

i have good luck with a 3/4 with 1.00 carbide wedges on hard pack if im racind on ice i wouldnt run anything but a speed track I know enough to say a 1.25 track kills your power

On ice, of coarse you run a speed track with 144 picks or higher. The point I was trying to make was that the 1.25 lug track will get more traction in hard pack than the speed track. The speed track will offer a higher speed but will let up to much of a lead in the beginning on hard pack to catch up.

i agree but a 3/4 track will hook just as good with the right transfer and studs and weigh less

i guess it all comes down to the sleds anyway if you have more power with the 1.25 then the other with the 3/4 you woud be better off but 2 sleds with the same power 1.25 vs 3/4 hard pack id put my money on the 3/4

YEP!!! and i will even line up with you in a 1000 feet race on hard pack with that same 1.25 track and still beat you
