just wondering if anyone has ever taken the chrome covers off their srx pipes and run them without them? dunno if it'll get too hot or not without them but i'd like to try it if anyone else can give me some input on it.

if you got the 98-99 srx you want to run the pipes hot!! more power, for the 00-02 its a little better with colder pipes if my memory serves me right...

ya i have a 98 and some of the clamps are coming loose on the aluminum heat sheild covers i used hose clamps for now and they hold pretty well but don't look that good and i was just wondering if anyone has run theirs without those covers or if it'll get too hot under the hood and start melting stuff.

i wouldn't pull them off, the srx's (like any other two stroke) like hot pipes and cool engines. Or, pull the covers and then get the pipes ceramic coated, that would look awesome as well.

Yes without the shields, it will not run as well and you will melt stuff unless you tape things up with heat tape.

The ceramic coating is an excellent option. You can also take the covers off, repaint the pipe, and then put them back on with extra large clamps.
