Does anyone have experience with aluminum bar ends robbing heat from the heated grips? I just picked up a new pair of the Yamaha flat round aluminum bar ends from my local dealer on clearance for $5.00! No soon as I got home from the shop did a friend tell me that they may rob heat from the grips. I thought I would ask before I drill holes in my grips.

try stuffing bar ends and handle bars where grips sit with fiberglass pink insulation... helps keep the heat from radiating into the inside of the bars /ends and away with ice cold air, rather than outward where it should be.....

The amount of heat that they will dissapate is negligable.

Ask the Apex owners how thier hand warmers are working out. They suck, even with the taller windy's. Its due to the bar ends robbing heat.

Check your hyfax ...
I have them on my 04 viper and they took some heat away ... still heat up warm enough to were I have to turn them down at times.
Also have them on an 02 vipe ... no more heated grips on that after install.
We did the 02 before the 04, we were a little more carefull when installing them the second time.

Yamahagirl, why did the 02's stop working? Did you cut a wire or something?

I have them on my '01 srx and they maybe rob a tiny bit of heat but they still get PLENTY hot. And yes you need to be careful not to cut the resistance wire inside the grip when you are installing the bar ends. One good way is to drill a hole in the center, then use bigger and bigger bits until it is big enough for the bar end shank. That way you don't have to cut off the end of the grip.

I am not sure why they quit working ... when we installed we had to grind the bars a little to fit the ends ... that may have done it. They didn't just slide in ...
Then again a lot of the 02's had grip problems ... that may have been it too?
Mine still work decent.

Hey Maddog:
The problem with the Apex is wattage. The grips are wired in series. There is a simple mod to get wattage. Run the grips parralel but this VOIDS the warranty.

Maybe so, but several axep/attack owners here have removed the bar ends and claim thier handwarmers work much better now.
put bar ends on my sx, i just drilled the end of the grip enough to fit the bar end flange,as for heat loss i am not feeling any heat loss,i cranked them up to check them and you can melt butter on them.....

if they are wired in series from factory, DON'T wire them in parralel... Load goes up by a factor of four and can very well raise hell with your stator.
