My buddy's SXR700 broke the chain this week. He has about 8000 miles on the sled. I have almost 7000 on my V-Max 700 now, and I'm still running the original chain. On a sled that is used for typical trail riding, when would you guys typically replace the chain just as a precaution?

I changed mine at 5000 miles. But only becaused I have seen what not replacing can do.

I would replace that thing yesterday. Its cheap and easy to do........ hey that remindes me of a girl I used to know..........

Had mine apart a earlier this season (changing the track). Checked it over and looked fine... but I only have 3600 miles or so.

I've never replaced any chain on a sled,,never any problems.
just make shure the tension and lube is always checked.

Ive broken 2 chains on my srx, both while beating through moguls. It sucks to be 200 miles from camp and break a chain. I would replace it anyways just for shitz and giggles...I went to a polaris chain this year as it looks to be much beefier when compared to the D.I.D or stock oem chain

just had my sons ZR600 chain case apart and the chain and sprockets still look new after 8,000 miles (it's about the only thing that looks new).

ive got 10000km on my sx 700 and chain looks mint but i do run full syntec hi perf lube (oh and its blue super trick..lol.) i change the lube twice per season because its cheap, i also check the dip stick every ride and clean off the little amount of shavings there is. That being said i will change the chain this summer just cause, i ran into a guy and his son last weekend about 1.5hrs from any civilization and his sons chain broke on a bomb and jamed the gears and broke his case cover, being the only prepared rider out there i was able to remove his chain case and chain so he could get towed back.
