Like it says in the title. Was wondering what you guys thought would be best. I want to get the most out of my sled without touching the inside of the motor. From what i read it seems a good clutch kit is all i need. Just got my bender transfer rods in the mail. Im also picked. Im not sure if im clutched because I know nothing about them. All I know is I have a red primary spring.

www primary spring - $30
4.5 gram rivets in inner (heel) holes of clutch swing weights ($.30 )
51/43 helix (stock on RX1) - $30 used if you can find, $45 new
Red stock secondary spring wound to 70 degrees.
I beat 3 Skidoo REv800Ho's and a piped Polaris 700 xEdge with this setup

for ride improvement
Viper shocks (new damping upgrades or if you can find them ( take offs from recall/warranty for "too stiff of a ride" for Vipers) $100 for me
gives long travel of Viper, with handling/power of SRX

Thanks Ramb, I did the viper upgrade this fall. Think ive just about have the kinks worked out of that now. Real happy with it. Im a little intimidated with my clutches. Im not sure if I dare to tear into them. What advice would you give a newbie like me?

I am only 2 months ahead of you in knowledge.
1) look at the tech section - clutching. tells you everything about what to do, and why.
2) mods are easy.
a) primary spring - take the 8 small bolts off and pull the cover off, cover is under some spring preload, just ease each of the last 4 bolts off a little at a time to not torque the clutch bushing sideways.replace the spring with WWW (3 white stripes).
b) clutch weights - I borrowed a clutch puller and poped the clutch off, but can be done on the sled - jsut don't drop any of the small washers on the weight shafts - easier to pop the clutch with the tool ( really long bolt with pointed end, remove clutch bolt, screw this one in until POP!!!!.
each weight comes off with small (about 3/16 size) bolts and shafts with washers.
weight comes off, and you can start to drill a hole in the inner rivet a little smaller than the weight hole. this weakens the rivet, then pop it out with a hammer and small punch
insert new rivet, and smash with a hammer. clean with hot soapy water, air dry thoroughly and reassemble, noteing alignment x's for balance. torque bolt to 80 ft-lbs,( sets taper fit) backoff, then retorque to 45 ft-lbs?
c) helix
back off three nuts equally. place a wrench or something behind the secondary so it doesn't spread apart while you try to hold things.
spring has some windup. just hold on decent and pull off studs slowly and back off windup ( about 60 degrees of windup)
replace helix, and wind to 70 degrees ( look at numbers on sheeve, and helix. and place ends of springs into correct hole numbers. make a combination addition to 7 ( = 70 degrees) ie. 1 and 6, . wind up to next bolts and assemble
d) go beat some skidoos
if you know what a metric crescent wrench is, then you will have no trouble.

Thanks for the info ramb. I think the first thing I need to do is take a look at my clutches and print this off. Also if I go out and buy the new parts it should help in seeing what needs to be done.

I also killed with this same setup on my 01 SRX. The only difference is I used an advant-Edge 48-40 helix. With either helix it's a great over-all setup.
did anyone try the green secondary wound to 2-6?

Seems like most guys are running 60-70 degree wrap with the green secondary.

Im a little unsure now. After looking at the tech. pages it looks like since I have a 99 srx my setup will need to be a little different then yours Ramb. Anyone want to let know on this one.

only thing I have been told is 98-99 want 8200-8300
2000+ wants 8400-8600
do not know on red vs green though.

I believe that I have a green secondary on there right now.

Im using the green secondary at 60degs. Im hitting 8400rpm. I am going to try the red though to see if theres a difference. I heard the 98-99 srx should be at 8300rpm if your doing short races, but if you are doing wide open racing on a lake or radar runs you should be hitting 8400-8500rpm.

Turk, MrViper, are ya out there? Really confused here. I weigh 230 and want the best overall trail lake performance from my clutches. What should I go out and buy. Ive read up on the tech pages and feel pretty confident on the labor part but am really not sure on what parts are best for me. thank you.

Im running a 98 srx so its the same as your 99 with a clutch setup that those guys recommended so you should run the same one that im using. It works pretty awesome for trail and nothing stock can touch me on the lake either. If you dont know the setup im using then PM me and I will give you a list of the stuff I got

Yam use the set up that is listed. I just put it in my girlfriends 99 without the www primary spring. I wanted a bit lower engagement. You will not be dissappointed. It hauls a**.
