hi guys i just went out and loaded my slrd and i have a problem with my 89 xlv last night i put the seat back on and ran it to see if the rear light was right, it was run fo a short time because it smokes like a house afire. the sled bogs down when idling but when i squeeze the brake the rpms come back up and it rund fine. its wired blue to blue, blk to blk, grn w/yellow stripe to yellow. this is at the tailight and its all i had apart.

If your not going to ride at night unhook the tail light for now,,will that
make it run better???

I'm not really sure how it would be, but the only thing I can think of is that there is a poor ground that is affecting the ignition and that the brake light circuit is supplying another ground circuit when the switch is closed. Can't figure out why though. Does the brake light work okay?
Take a jumper wire and jump from a frame ground to a motor ground and see what happens. The ignition and lights use 2 separate systems until it comes to the grounding.
Or, you can just run with the brake on ....

i agree i dont know how this is possible but it was run all day with the light unplugged and ran fine. im going to look into it tomorrow i'll pull the cover off the bars i also noticed that the grip warmers didn't seem to work. i wasn't riding this sled so i'm not 100% sure of how it performed today.
