I'm in the midst of a rebuild with my 700 and am looking at replacing at least 1 cylinder and possibly 2.A friend saw an add with some 01 parts for sale and I wondered if the cylinders would work and if I can expect any extra performance vs stock ones.I can get replated ones in Thetford Mines,Que (I've used theirs before) and they worked out well but I'm also looking to have the heads planed and recut to work with the base gasket mod.

I think the base gasket mod is only for the 98-99 and not required for 00-02

The 00-02 cylinders will bolt up perfectly & are good for a few extra ponies.

Turk,

Wouldn't he want to replace all three cylinders though? He said he only needed to replace "one, possibly 2 cylinders".....I would think that he would want all three cylinders to be the same. The 00-02 cylinders has raised ports in them......so I wouldn;t think you would wanna run 2 00-02 cylinders with one 98 cylinder......

Woops..my bad..you wanna do all 3 as a matched set. The port timing is slightly different on the 00-02 SRX & you wanna keep em all the same.

I guess I should clarify the point about the cylinders;if I can get 3 good 00-02 cylinders I will put them on and go but if not I'm going to replace the bad ones on my engine and have the heads recut w/base gasket mod. :yam:

These new emoticons are a riot.

noone's bad

Brad,

I agree with you 100%. Wasn't attempting to step on Turk's toes at all here. Most people who frequent this site are well aware that he knows his stuff. You are correct in saying it should be a no brainer......but there are still alot of guys out there who dont realize that 98-99 cylinders are different and I didn't wanna see a guy mix and match them and then wonder what's wrong or why he doesn't see a performance gain, or look at the 1 or 2 cylinders he just bought and say "why are these ones different?" So.....Brad....I agree.....Turk....noone's bad.....just wanted to make sure he didn't take the advice the wrong way, which now we see....he didn't. No harm done.
