Hey guys, i just took apart my 1980 SRX440 engine for the first time, I have a few questions about the intake adapter, it fit's between the intake manifold boot and the cylinder intake, it's all aluminum, is this necessary? it looks like the intake boot will bolt right on directly to the intake part of they cylinder? if not can it be ground down, it's very rough inside with lots of sharp angles? I have attached a picture it's part number 33. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give me, Rob.

Looks like the spacer also holds the oil injection needle. I would bet you could just clean up the sharp edges and it would be just fine. Now if the oil injection is directed to the fuel pump then you may be able to remove it but the the carbs will be too close to the motor for the air box to fit. Why do you want to remove it anyway ?

if you get rid of the oil injection and run the round slide carbs. you won't need the aluminum spacer. let me know if you have nay more questions.
