I have a 800 hauck big bore viper, and I got a good deal on a set of slp pipes I have to run 151.3 mains to get a good wash pattern and it seems like it should have more power than it dose. I think Iam not getting enough air to the engine. the carbs are not bored, stock reeds, I did drill smoe holes in the air box plate. It will do about 108mph on radar but I still think there's more there. Any suggestions would be great. As far as the cluthing I'm running,8bu-oo no rivets G-W-G,14.5 rollers and a team secondary with a 70-44 cam. It runs 8800-9000 all day long

Send a private message to srxspec. He might not get back immediately. I think he's going to the Yamaha show in MPLS. on Monday. I know he has alot of experience with the SLP pipes.

vipers need a vacume in the air box on top end thats why that line plugs in there those holes you drilled might have took that away

I think he must have unplugged the air went hose from airfilter and dropped them down in belly with that jetting...?

8BU weights and the TEAM secondary are not good for top end speed running. Just my opinion.

Hey guys, carbs are vented to the air box, checked power valves, they open fine and are adjusted right. as far as the cluthing I have a set up with the stock weights and secondary that perform the same way. Not a clutching problem. I have not run slp pipes on a yamaha before and it seems like the pipes do not work well with a big bore. the only reason I would be running this lean of jets is from lack of air or timming. The timming deal is tough because the only spec. from yamaha is at 1800 rpm witch tells me squat, and I really don't want to buy a new cdi just to find out. I checked evey thing I could and to me it all gose back to the pipes. I would like to try hauck's pipes or Simmons, but to shell out more money is a painfull deal. Is any body running slp on a big bore viper from yor post's sounds like most have been on 700's. Thanks for all of your imput this thing is starting to frustrate me.

If your not riding in high attitudes I think you probebly will burn down your engine driving on a cold day with that jetting and airwent hose connected to air box... Have you checked compression? Maybe your already burned?
The guy I boght my pipes from had also had a hauck 800 kit on his viper and he told me that the hauck husher/aaen pipes worked good with that kit. He sold out everything because the nicasil coating in one cylinder cracked/slipped and went down in crankhous causing engine explosion....
Hauck have some pipes called "viper triple pipes-big volume" I read in theyr catalog that: this are big volume pipes that will turn your big bore viper into a lake race monster. 9200rpm.... Limited quantities

If your carbs are vented to the air box you are WAY WAY WAY too lean!!! The reason that motor won't run is because it simply does not have enough fuel from the main jet to allow it to run!! With a big bore and SLP pipes you need to be in the 167.5 main jet range (all depends on porting, etc).

Run a 36 0r 38 finish angle on the helix, team always recomends to much helix finish angle. 40 minimum 4-sure. maybe try a higher rate secondary spring, but helix angle is the way to go. Friend of mine went to a 38 finish from a 44 on his 800 doo with a team unit, and top speed went up 6 miles an hour.

when pat bored the cyl. I told him not to touch the porting because I did not want a finiky engine. I tryed to run 167.5 and the engine gets so much fuel it wont even run, it sounds like the main jet is not even in the carb. it would run on the bottum and mid but as soon as I went WO it got pig rich. One other thing, my air box still has all the stuff in it should I gut it out? I'll try a 38 in the clutch but maybe not till I figure out the jetting. Compresion is 145 across the board.

You should be looking for a bad/loose hose/fitting somewhere. Sounds like your running atmoshere jetting. If just one line is off on a carb, it will do this.
