Here it is ladies and gentlemen
2007 will be the year that Yamaha makes all the other manufactures re-think were they are going.
On Feb. 13th will be the unveiling of the most radically designed snowmobile to hit the market since, well maybe forever. This new design will be targeted at the Gen-X’ers and those with moto-cross in their blood.
It will be a four-stroke, light weight, MX style (meaning narrow seat, track, and lots of suspension). High horsepower will not be their main priority but horsepower is not their priority, it’s the torque needed for quick acceleration to propel the sled in the air and over the moguls.
The handlebars will be directly over the motor because the engine is almost under you when you sit on it. (Similar to a dirt bike).
When Yamaha does something they don’t hold back and this will be yet another area where Yamaha dominates the racing scene with 4-stroke power. They did it with the YZ450F moto-cross bike, then the YFZ450 ATV, the waverunners and now the snowmobile world.
Only thing I’m not sure about is the little guys? Where’s something to start them out young? It’s sure hard to switch somebody who grew up on a Cat, Doo, or Polaris to something different later. I hope we see this hole filled in their line-up soon! Maybe I'm right maybe I'm wrong. I guess we'll see on the 13th

What a let down. 80 Horse is a joke. The Apex is cool but why not boost the Vector hp? What a letdown!!!

Don't knock it until you try it. It is not a drag sled or lake racer. It makes me sick all the srx owners complaining about only 80 horse-power. It is built for mogul mashing and tight twisty trails. I bet it will surprise alot of people when they zipping down a railroad grade or powerlines. From what I have seen in the videos this ain't no play toy. This sled means business. I think it will be pretty funny when a 120 horse snow cross sled gets spanked by a 80 horse ditchbanger. This thing is a torque monster with 5 valves and revs quickly to 11,000 rpm.

I'd be mildly surprised if the 550F got as high as 80 HP
I guess we'll have to wait for the 'independant' scaling to see who's bending the truth more.

It must be doomsday!! I keep reading a lot of really sour comments about the new Yamaha line-up. It seems to me that if you don't think that 80hp is enough for you, you still have a lot of options from Yamaha. If power is your thing, what's wrong with the Apex, especialy if you've got money for a supercharger!!?? If ditch-banging is your thing, why would you not want to give that new Phazer a spin????!!!! I live and ride in the mountains of northern Utah, and I can tell you this, horsepower is on everyone's mind, but for some reason, when the ride starts, even the little fan cooled sleds seem to find their way to the top of the hill! Yamaha has given every rider something new, all within the past 3 years! You cannot possibly expect them to completey re-do their entire line-up every single season!
