I wonder if anyone can tell me what might be causing a short on my '03 Viper? The headlight is dim, high beam indicator light is dim and when I hit the breaks the dash blanks out, let go of lever and tach comes back and spedo #'s reapear. When i shut it off and restart I get one orange light flash, not the usual two flashes. this went on for about 75 miles then bam everything came back to full power and I was able to go another 300 miles and it has'nt reoccured. Any ideas?

The short is under the motor by the mag side. You don't have to pull the motor to fix it. Find the harness that comes out from under the front center of the motor. Unplug it on the left front of the sled and loosen up the wire clamps. Up by the coolant bottle pull the harness up but don't pull it all the way out so you don't have to fish it back under the motor. You should see the short. Tape it up good or put some protective device on it.

I wasn't sure if this is the classic harness problem or caused by something else. Thanks!

When I had the "classic" wire harness problem. I had some symtoms similar to yours. When I hit the brake, the lights would dim. Also had speedo problems.

So did you have a harness problem at all or was it your speedo only giving you troubles?
