Hi, I'm in the process of purchasing a new yamaha sled. My major concerns for a new sled is very little vibration and low noise. I heard that yamahas have a really noisy track. Can anybody tell me if they do and what can be done to fix it. I'm thinking about a 136" track machine for the bumps and off trail excursions. Any ideas?
Thanks

I think the "noisy track" comes from the fact that you can ACTUALLY HEAR other things besides the engine on a 4 stroke sled. Same track some of the other manufactures are running.

I think you received bad info . . .
The Yamaha engines are silky smooth, and the stock exhausts are very quiet. As stated above the lack of engine noise due to the rear exhaust does allow you to hear the track more. On front exhaust engines this sound is drowned out by the engine.
The track noise can be made worse with improper adjustment.

You got that right!
Although its not a noisey track in particular, it is greatly affected by track tension. Id say cut and clip your windows, then get extrovert sprockets put on, the less track tension will result in less noise, less slider wear and more track hp.
Here are some problems with this track..... First of all, it eats sliders like they were gourmet marshmallows due to the Ripsaw having a 3rd of the clips a normal track would and everyt third window not open. Im not kidding at all, you can lose half your sliders on one run.

My 1.5" Ripsaw howls pretty loud but I'm sure it's due to lug height. I don't have pipes but I have drilled the silencer out and it's still pretty loud over the engine noise but nothing too irritating or anything. I recently found this thread on the 4 stroke forum about the track noise "problem": See here I only read like 3 pages of it though since it's so long.
Oh I almost forgot, the inch and a half is still only clipped every third but all the windows are already cut out.

Yep, lost OVER half on my first 100mile run, but 1500 miles later I haven't lost much more. People just change the sliders too quick when they see the excessive wear (but not to the waremarks)

the proaction skid has a little more growl than some do, and I think the specs for track tightness are a little severe and make it worse than it has to be. I noticed it gets worse when the hyfax get older - they seem to wear unevenly, and that creates pressure points that may amplify the track vibration against the skid.
