Looking to get some info on a trip i would like to do next year with a couple of guys in my area. We would be leaving from maine going to the closest mountain riding we could get. We would rent sleds not take ours. Could someone point me in a direction on what place to go. Would like to be able to drive but would consider flying if we had to. Trying to be as cheap as possible. Thanks for any info...

For a newbie mountain rider I would suggest West Yellowstone. Prices are cheap due to park closure & they are hurting for business. 99.9% of the riding is outside the park but since they restricted the park the place is a ghost town. You have 100,s of miles of groomed trails & lots of off-trail stuff from moderate to severe! You can fly to Bozeman & then get shuttled the 90 miles to the park. Lots of great hotels, restuaraunts & fun bars. There are good dals to be had now too!!!!

Turk, any suggestions on where to stay? anyone else with any experience with this let me know. I've seen tons of hotels and things offering package deals but not sure where the location of the hotels near where we would be riding. someone must have done this trip before with some helpful thoughts.

You can park your sled in front of any hotel & ride from your door. Do a search of west yellowstone & check out hotels & pics. Yellowstone is a sled friendly town & you ride your sled allmost any where you wanna go.

Check your hyfax ...
We stayed at the Togwotee Mountain Lodge, about 50 miles EAST of Jackson Hole. They had cabins, lodge rooms, resturant, bar, and gas on site. We left from the lodge every day ... trails in any direction and tons of off trail to explore. We were just east of one of the Yellowstone entrances, but never went in yellowstone.
They had rentals on site ... and I believe rentals included a guide (not for sure, but heard something about that). Some people with us had a guide one year and said the guides can take you on some good stuff ... they don't just stick to the groomed trails if you ask for some adventure.
The lodge wasn't the cheapest ... but the only one in the area.
