Just wondering how you guys recommend i break in my motor after i get it rebuilt. (rings on old piston plus new piston and ring on mag side) gaskets ect obviously. I have always just rode it half throttle or less when i have broke them in but the last sled i did that to (it was a arctic cat) died after 200miles *previous owner rebuilt it.

Break in

I have always been told that you should vary the throttle position for the first 300 miles . Don't be afraid to pin it, just don't hold it there for any length of time. Then as I gain confidence , after the 300 mile mark, I begin longer WOT runs. I might be a little conservative on the 300 miles for just a rering, but better safe than sorry.

:yam:

Yep, full throttle is good for it as long as it is in short bursts. Going at a slow speed (6000-7000 rpms) constantly is not as good for it as varying the throttle position like stated above. I like to pin it for about 3 seconds every time and gradually getting longer. There will probably be a lot of different opinions on break in, but will all give you the same general idea.

Sounds good. ;)!

kinda what i figured but since the cat blew up on me after 200 miles i figured i want to make sure that this sled last longer, anything to watch for after to make sure all is well. I know i have to watch plugs i am going to run it richer turning oil pump up (previous owner leaned it down some not too bad) as well as possibly jumping up 1 jet size and turning needles out some.

follow yamaha's recomendation 5 gallons of 50 to one premix don't beat on sled because premix will lean motor out while useing injecter pump after the 5 gallons run like regular
