OK, I thought I might bring this up to see if I can nail my problem down before next year. I have an 02 srx, and sometimes on start up the headlights, tach, and tail light won't come on at start up. If I let it run for a minute or two, and then shut it down and restart it, everything comes back to normal. Any ideas? I mistakenly bought the headlight relay kit for an 01, but was told on hear and from a dealer that it isn't the solution. Anyone else have an experience like this?
Thanks

it sure sounds like the relay but it could be the cdi as well.....what did the dealer think the problem was if its not the relay???

The dealer when I was explaining it to him, thought it was a loose connection or something similar, but I don't think so. If it was, I figure that it would flicker once in awhile. It primarily does it when it is under 10 degrees out. Wouldn't the cdi effect how it runs? Please explain to me what the cdi does exactly.

The CDI is really the brain box for the sled...all importain wires go in the CDI...controls lighting, YPVS, Ignition...and so on

One other place to investigate...........
If you look at the schematic for your sled in the back of your owners manual, find item #37 (Load Control Relay(white)), you can trace it out and see that this item controls all you have mentioned....
This is a different relay from the headlight relay......
When the problem is present, simply bypass the relay contacts by temporarily connecting the red and blue wires at the relay together with a jumper wire.....If this turns everything back on, you can count on the relay hanging or those contacts bad......
(these symptoms seem to be generic for those sleds)....
good luck....

This problem is pretty common, I don't have a fix but one night 3 srx 700's in our group had it happen at the same time. 2-2000's 1-2002. Only happened to mine once. We wrote it off as a temperature thing. It was humid then got very cold.

I had an 01 and an 02 srx, they both did the same thing.Had the wireing harness replaced on one along with a new relay and it still did it.It usually only happens when its real cold out.I never had a problem once they warmed up everything worked fine,i wouldnt worry about it.

MY buddy rode a 2002 SRX last year and when it was really cold in the mornings when we would go out and start them his did that a couple of times, exactlly like you are talking about!

After tinkering around a little, I found my handle bar warmers weren't working, found no juice going to them. I finally made it to the dealer and replaced the load control relay, and now those are working great. Hope this takes care of the other issues.
Thanks all for the advice.

Same thing happens to me on my 01 SRX. If it's really cold outside the tach and other electical devices don't work for a few minutes and then they just sudenly turn on and everything works fine. I have no idea why it happens and niether does my dealer.
