Anyone know a good starting point for clutching, jetting for a 98 700 xtc for 1/4 mile drags on asphalt for 100(1 hundred) feet above sea level?
My machine has been race ported for race gas and has powerinc triple end dump pipes. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

For clutching run y-w-y primary spring with a long cap cover. 89a-10 weights, 2.4 grams in tip, pivot empty. 45/39 helix with green spring at 60 degree wrap. Jetting will be around 140 mains, needles in stock position with about 45 or 47.5 pilots.
Thanks, thats where i'll start.
Right now I have the 02 viper clutch stock except with 17mm steel wts in the outer)end) holes and 02 viper secondary with stock spring and Dalton 53-43 helix and wound to 90. It worked pretty good last year on the 02 viper (11.5s at 107mph) and thought it might work on the 98 xtc 700 set up as above. Do you think it will work?
Thanks
Thanks
I was told by the shop to use 155 to 160 main jets to start. On this new engine I couldnt get to 8600(recommended) rpm, only 7800. How do you tell what you need to do on jets? The plugs look brand new, no buildup or discolorization and there is no visible wash on the pistons.

I run 147.5 mains in a friends 700 sx-r with pi pipes. This is at 800' elevation & he rides down to -30. It has been great for 2 seasons. 150.s way high for summer jetting.
Thats what I was thinking too. Maybe I'll try 147.5 and see what it does.I'll let you know. Thanks
This weekend I ran 11.73 @ 110mph
60ftet 330ftet 594ftet 1/8et 1/8mph 1/4et 1/4mph
1.645 4.749 6.910 7.397 92.230 11.731 110.520
jetting was 156.3 and the plugs never got dark, stock clutching 70' red spring on secondary.
Anyone have ideas on how to improve upon this?

It takes a long time for plugs to develop some colour..a few pases won,t do it. You may want to tighten your secondary about 20 degrees. Seems kinda loose for asphalt, especially if you are hooking up hard.
It feels like there is more there and it might be shifting out too fast and slightly pulling my rpms down. A little scary trying to watch my rpms off the start but after about 2-3 secs the rpms are climbing from 8000 up to 8600 and staying there for the rest of the run. Maybe this will give more insight as to what to do.
