Since I am not riding for another week I figure I should go ahead and wax sled. I also had some big ruff deep scratches from previous owner. How can I reduce these?

Pledge!!

I use "lemon pledge" if it gets dusty or lightly soiled throughout the year. Easy, cheap and does a good job of the hood. But this is to only tidy it up when it's been sitting in the shed, not to remove scratches etc.

I use a good wax like mothers and keep the hood shinny after every ride or wash with plexus, this stuff is amazing and easy to use. Its great for my chrome blue windshield.

Plexus for sure!
It is so ridiculous how good of a job it makes of the sled. The windsheild alone gets so clear that you dont notice its there.
Before putting it on, I clean all the crap off the sled with windex, then let it dry, then polish it up.
I highly reccomend this polish.

I use pro car care products, on all the paint from sleds, bikes, to cars I use pro gold, works really good and gives a deep shine. kinda hard to find but you could try the detail shops in your area.

would that be flitz ky. I did use on my sidepanel after i removed some sticker residue with carb cleaner and it does look good. wasn't sure if I should use it or not. I have the mothers power ball on my drill. may do whole sled with flitz.

Armorall Carwash wipes to clean it, diamond dust to take any like marks off of it, and then I use the platinum turtle was - then you can use the quick detailer to clean it off after a quick ride.

Astroshield is what I use on the sled and car. The best stuff I've found. Many carshow people use it. Had to buy it on the net at KZ900.com

I use the mothers 3 step system. cleaner, polish, then wax. comes out fantastic. my sled still looks new after 5000+ miles

X2..on the meguairs good stuff
Yamaha wax to start the season, Meguires ever two weeks after.
Got to keep the hood on Viper slick when riding in the powder, keep the snow sliding off that opps hood by Yamaha. The hood profile looks intemdidating but holds too much, kinda a scoop shovel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
