Ok i just noticed this chip out of my primary, i left a wrench on my foot rest and i guess it fell in the clutch bay and my primary smoked it.
very upset new sheve is $230.99 fack!fack!fack! And i just baught this new less than a year ago only about 500km on it. Man what luck do i have.
I wanted to know if i could just smooth out the chip so that it wont crack. Would it be safe, or would that small amout off balance my primary.
heres a pic. it look s cracked but thats just majic marker

Clutch is unbalanced & structurally not solid. It could totally disintegrate taking out both clutches; your left foot; & wipe out the crank seal &/or crank which in turn could totally devastate your motor!

frick im supposed to go on a trip on satarday, that little chip will unbalance the clutch, there is no cracking whats so ever, crap do i risk it for the weekend.
wouldnt the location of the chip help, its under no load and if the sheeve cracked would the cap and the spyder hold it together, i thought it was the inner primary sheave that exploided. Correct me if im wrong.
Also what if i shaved or milled the same amount from each side.

get a new one quick....its not worth the risk.
Ride it & take tow ropes. Might get lucky. What is a left leg worth these days?

...which brings up a good question. Do you have accidental dismemberment insurance?

If I HAD to use it, I would take a small, fine round file, smooth the edge of the chip so it doesn't crack off the edge of the chipped part, repalce it when I got home. Balance isn't that much of an issue you only lost a couple grams of material. Whats gonna make it worse is if it cracks

I would be able to smooth it out to the point of mirror finish, im not worried about it turning into a crack. IM jus tworried about it affecting the sheave and spyder sliding together, and it throwing it off balance.
but i dont think ill risk it fack im going to california next weekend, so this weekend maybe my last ride.

Oh its not going to affect the function of the clutch, but like other people said on this thread, they'd worry about it exploding, it will crack, then explode..............

IMO i wouldnt use it. i had a clucth that was missing a small chunk out of ech side. road liek that for 2 years nuttin happened. but then agian my buddys clutch didnt have any noticnle flaws and boom new hood, belly pan and clutch cover. same thing with my other buddy boom new belly pan and A arms (AC). they were both lucky and didnt get hit but my buddy with teh yamie was close. a 5 inch pic just skimed his helmat after it bounced of teh sedonary. lets put it this way. if a CD was sping at 9000 rpms and shatered and u were stanging in its way. it would cut open 2 3 inches deep if not more. now imagin what a chunk of a clutch would do to ur helmet and face if u were leaning iinto a left hand corner. u wouldnt nessisar see the cracks they could be under laying fishers not showing on the out side. only way to tell if theres a crack there u cant see is with X ray.

do you have body armor? they scatter pretty good at about 9000 rpm. blew parts right through my hood. I found a flyweight a good 25 yards from where she grenaded. It's not worth the risk!
