I did a search, but didn't find exactly what I needed.
I bought a used avenger III on ebay. I was expecting it to wire up exactly the same as my avenger III that I have on my other viper. The ebay guage only has two wires (red and black) whereas my other one has three wires (Red, black and Yellow). I know that red=power; black=gnd; yellow=tach on the 3-wire racepak, but how do i get both tach and power for the red wire on my ebay one.
I tried the Blue/White in the steering column and got power, but no tach
I tried the Yellow/black from the cdi to the tach and got tach, but no power.
I read that you can get both tach and power from the stator wires. Is that true? and where do I tap into one of them at?
Please help!!!
Thanks

RacePak says to connect the red wire to the lighting coil to get both power and tach, I don't know what wire that is though, The Viper wiring diagram shows 3 white wires that come from the lighting coil to the regulator, probably try one of them?

So by "lighting coil" are you talking about #1 on the wiring diagram in the owner's manual? It's labeled as "AC Magneto".
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yes, that's the one.

EGT makes two differnt wiring harnesses you might have to buy the one that has the yellow wire. I don't think you can get a tach pulse from the lighting coil. I think on yamahas it it changes in the cdi box.

Can anybody verify this? I don't want to make any more connections than I have to. I may call racepak on Tuesday unless someone on the forum can verify that the above procedure works on a viper.
Thanks for everyones input!

You need the tach wire harness from racepak, the harness you have has no tach input.
