Somehow the end of the dipstick has made contact w/ the chain and broken the retaining clip, chipped the magnet, and ground a flat spot on the end of the stick. I pulled the stick and the magnet made it out of the chaincase then fell off the stick into the tub. The stick was holstered correctly on the tab on the side of the chaincase, but if it has just a little torsion against the rubber plug, it bends the bottom end(magnet) into the lower gear. It seems that after replacing the stick and securing the hoop on the keeper tab, I still need to twist the stick clockwise as far as I can.
No damage to chain or case, but I wonder if the magnet had gotten into the works?????????It might just have pulverized, I think its probably alot softer than the running gear.

Chain was tight, stick was straight, the machine is practically new. The local service manager looked at it and just scratched his head. Just one of those things :o| Yamaha warrantied the stick & oil.

mine did it too. i had mine replaced by the dealer under warranty also. He said its happend to several others he has seen. he said the magnet was no big deal as it would have been crushed. that was several years ago, and the new one hasnt got chewed up yet, (i did bend it a little)
