Viper Jackshaft ?

I have a question about a viper jackshaft. Had some vibrations and thought my bearing was gone. Pulled out the shaft and found that the set screws had loosened up and the bearing has been spinning around. Check out the picture, should the shaft diameter be the same all the way across? Where the bearing was sitting, it is quite worn down. Could i get the shaft welded and then machined down to proper size? Any help and comments are appreciated. It didn't leave me stranded!!! I still rode it all the way home. Oh, forgot to mention it's on the clutch side.

Time for a new shaft, no its not supposed to look like that, and no, you can't fix it, or, no you shouldn't fix it, that thing is hardened and you can't weld it, surface grind it, straighten it and put the hardening back in it, cheaper than you can buy another shaft. As well as, look in side the shaft, that thing is hollow, it looks like its worn half way through, it would have snapped shortly, then you would have had FUBAR, what you need is another shaft and bearing. Check the top bearing in the case also, with that thing bouncing around as long as it was, I'd replace it even if it felt good. I have the pieces if you can't get them.

To pull the top bearing out of the chaincase do you need to take the whole chain case off? Can you do it with just the front cover off? I saw a snap ring in there (front and back). Is it hard to get that bearing out?

i have a saft off a 97 im pretty sure it will work. i sent u a PM. viper is teh same part number as a sxr and im pretty sure that they are the same as the 97s.
