gas gage broke on 97sx700

ok my gas gauge just stopped working, the float seems to function and all the wires are connected, is this a common problem with the sx's. Do i have to buy a new fuel sending unit.

un plug all coonections and replug . you might have a short in your connections..maybe corroded or dirty

Unplug the gauge and put a ohm meter on the leads to the sending unit in the tank. Hook the sending unit float with a wire, raise and lower it to see if the resistance changes, if it does then the sending unit is OK and u either have a wiring problem or a gauge problem.
