Howdy, A few questions.. I have a 97 Vmax 600 xtc, with oil coming out from around the right hand plug..

I was out riding a week or so ago and the sled started bogging down real bad.I could only get it to go 40mph so I pulled over and looked under the hood.. there is oil coming out from the plug, not much maybe a table spoons worth..

So I changed the plug and the sled ran great for a bit longer, the ran crappy again for another 5 mins or so.. then it seemed to clear itself up and ran great the rest of the way home..

I haven't had a chance to look at the sled again, but would like any suggestions on what I should check and if the oil coming out is really a bad thing, some people that I've talked to said it might not necessarily be a bad thing if its running rich or lean (forget what one exactly)

The same people said the bugging could have been from old gas or water in the gas..

Rock on guys

You will get some leakage around the plugs if you have pulled them out and reinstalled them several times. They have a crush gasket, and it doesn't seal very well after multiple changes. Throw in a new plug and it shouldn't leak if you torque them correctly.

Firstly, I know nothing but when I was looking for a sled this year I was told that the 97 600 v-max had a recall on it. Something about a screw coming loose in the cylinder or something like that. I was told to make sure this recall was done on the sled if I bought this model. Just a uneducated thought. Diceman

that recall was for updated pistons because they had problems with the ring locating pins coming out and allowing the rings to turn, and they would catch the exhaust port, making a BIG mess. Definately don't think your problem is this serious though ;)!

2 years ago and last winter the sled was in the shop getting new pistons or cylinders, the shop told me the second time they fixed a recall issue with it..

I'm assuming that is fixed..
