Vmax rebuild. Temperature higher on one side

We just did a top end on a 85 Vmax twin. PTO side got a new cylinder/rings while the MAG side was left alone. We got it running and let it warm up for about 3-5 mins. Using an infrared temperature gun, it has 160F on the MAG exhaust and close to 350F on the PTO side (side with new cylinder). The temp gun was pointed at the point where each pipe meets the cylinder. Pulling the plugs shows a good brown color on both sides.. in fact the hotter side is richer. The new side also shows good compression at 145psi. I know the temp should be higher during break-in but, does double sound right?

I wouldn't put a lot of stock into those IR guns being real accurate unless it one that is worth about $40,000.00 and the operator knows exactly what he's doing. The only inexpensive way to get an accurate temp is to use a temp probe.

I use those cameras at work and I thought I knew how to operate them. I was dead wrong. I eneded up taking a week long course on all the theory and operation of IR equipment. There's ALOT more than meets the eye to those things.
