I have lost some top speed on my 97 700sx.Stock motor except for reed notch mod,one inch finger track, viper long travel shocks and srx skis
I topped out at 180kms last year and now this season the best I can get out on the lakes is 160kms.Anything I should be looking for or is age kicking in?
The sled has 6000km on it now.

So your saying last year your 700sx did 180kmh or 111mph and now it will only do 160kph or 99mph?
Gain any weight? Is the clutch(s) clean? Belt worn? Track too tight? Sliders worn or did you change the suspension in any way?

Nope . No weight gain.LOL New belt Track was adjusted again after the suspension upgrade was done . Sliders are still in great shape.Have not looked at the clutch.Don't know what to look for.Might be time to learn and tear down the primary and secondary and replace whatever needs replacing.Anything I should be looking for?
What changes were made from 97 to 99 vmaxs (700). I drove a 99 deluxe (Reverse and elect.start)It did not seem have the same throttle response or power as my 97 and it sure was noisey under the hood.Had a hard time hitting 140 kms.Is it because it has reverse or what any other differences between the two engines.Just wondering

that is 180 on the dream meter or speedo and not radar right.
I would check clutching, clean, check weights and rollers, bushings may be binding. That sled stock is probably only hitting 160kms.

were you hitting 180kmh before or after you did the long travel skid upgrade? It's possible that you lost the top speed by going to a long travel skid.

how old is ur belt makes a big dif u prolly get aorund anotehr 5 6 mph witha new belt. on my 500 it use to be a 10 mile gain and a wicked repsonce change too. i couldnt hit 100mph on my sxr 700 put the new belt on and was at 105 on the dreamometter but i culd have gone more but the open water was coming up on the other side of teh island and i didnt know how thick the ice was around the island so i urned around way before that. didnt wanna take a dip in the lake,
All mods to the sled were done this year Last year the sled was bone stock with the excepton of the track Belt is brand new now has 600kms on it And yes all speeds are on the speedo No radar
Just wondering what I should be looking at or tuning up
Used to be knocking on the rear bumper of my buddies Rx1 but know about 50 feet behind him No changes on his sled

My guess is it's because of the changes in your rear suspension. Longer travel = lower top end. You can fix this by putting 8" rear axle wheels on your skid. What year RX1 were you keeping up with?

I would look into those clutches. Parts probably getting old and worn, springs start losing their force, rollers and pins get sloppy, etc. Also check center to center and alignment. Look for broken motor mounts. Long travel will definately lose you some top speed.
What would be the center to center specs on the clucthes? I have no owners manual for this sled.Bought it used.
Going to tear down the clucthes after this season is over and check it all out.
Should I stay with the factory weights and rivets. The motor turns 8800 rpm at 160kms(about 100mph) (speedo reading) right now.
