I think the crank bearing is gone on my old 1980 ET300 (engine seized when running). I've taken out the engine and removed the heads/cylinders and the pistons look good. I can turn the crank with some difficulty, but there's a scraping noise (hence the suspicion that the crank bearings are shot. The problem is that I can't get the Clutch assembly off so I can split the crankcase to remove the crankshaft to inspect the bearers. Am I right in assuming the bolt that holds it in is reverse threaded (since the nut on the flywheel end is normally threaded)?
Irrespective, is there some trick to getting it off, without the aid of special tools?

the center bolt should turn out CCW..then you'll need a clutch puller..Frank said:I think the crank bearing is gone on my old 1980 ET300 (engine seized when running).
