So, i have a broken primary spring that I think is a bender or maxx perf. all red spring. With advice from people here I ordered a w-w-w spring and 3 shims from my dealer. Should be in today I hope.
There is a an aluminum spacer about 1/4 inch thick where the engagement shims would go. Also had one engagement shim. Should this spacer be there when I put a stock spring back in it?
My plan is to put in the w-w-w spring with 3 engagement shims to hopefully have my engagement around 4100.
Before the broken spring she was engaging at about 4300-4400 and topped out at about 8400-8500. I looked on the tech pages, but in the exploded view I could not see this spacer. All this clutching stuff is like latin to me.
Thanks,

mul

a w/w/w yamaha with 8dn-20 weights and 4.5 in both holes will be at 41-4200rpm engagemnt, you dont need the aluminum shim anymore, that was used to make the maxx red spring higher engagemnt speed, you can use the yamaha spring shims to make it to your liking if you want more engagement speed, you can go up to 3 of them.

ok, no problem, a 89a is 46.7 empty, if you have a 4.5 in the weight its 51.2 grams. 8dn20's with (2) 4.5's is 51.09 grams, close enuff!! your engagement speed will be 4000-4200rpm with no shims

Thanks again. Got it all buttoned up and my engagement is right at 4400.
W-W-W spring with all three shims. Seems a little flat at mid throttle.
Bottom end is almost the same as with the red spring.
Going riding tomorrow, so i'll post back with my thoughts.
Thanks,

mul

it probally is a little flat as the maxx red is 52.5/130 rate and the w/w/w is 45/119, so in short its going to upshift a little faster, your most likely overshifting some now, you may need to tighten up the secondary to hang onto the belt a little more or lighten up the rivet in the weight a tad.
