Brake fade

I have a 2001 SRX that I was taking out on some speed runs. Around my 4th or 5th run there was a major loss of braking force. I removed the pads and took a look to see if there was anything damaged or dirty. Everything look clean and still looked new. I am thinking that the brake fade was caused by excessive heat because the next day the brakes worked just fine at moderate speeds.
Has any body experienced this? and should I be concerned about it?

brake fluid

You should change your brake fluid.
It attracts moisture and the boiling point gets lower and lower.
If it boils you can loose your brakes, the boiling point gets lower for each time it boils. Have seen this many times. I change the brake fluid each season just to be on the safe side.

You would be correct. Brake fade is caused when you pads are heated to the point where they emit gas. The gas causes the pads to lose contact with the rotor. This is the reason for cross drilled rotors. They help dissipate heat better and give an escape route for gasses under hard braking conditions. Also if you build too much heat in the rotor it could get heat checks in it or warp. Also agree with post above.

Yes, I have the brake cooling duct on my sled. I bled the brakes with some new fluid last night and will give that a try this weekend. The brakes work fine while trail riding. It's only when stopping the bullet from speeds in excess of the c-note after a few runs. Has any one tried a different roater to correct this problem?

Us your feet also to slow down.LOL :)

Or left off a little earlier and let resistance slow you down. I rarely use the brakes out on the lake
