My clutch side cylinder is not burning as hot as the other. Anyone know why or what would cause this? I felt the pipe and the one was much hotter than the other. Both cylinders have good plugs.

The plug is fireing right?????

Do a compression test.......

I just got done going through an engine install on my vmax xt. I talked to several people including yamaha customer service and all have stated there is a problem with the yamaha twin engines from 97-99. The piston rings "fold" and score up the cylinder walls. The rings can also break (as in my case) and the parts will float around the cylinder until they cause major damage. My engine caught a piece in the exhaust port which was pinched by the piston. Needless to say, the engine was toast after that. It is recommended to put on a new top end (pistons/rings).

My sled was the 3rd one in the group to died around 4,000 miles.

We know the '97's had a problem..but i NEVER heard of '98-'99 having a
problem..i see many of thes sleds 98-99 with 5 to 9k on them stock
untouched..they had the problem updated by '98.....
