Anyone had this problem? I have a 01 srx was riding this weekend and sometimes it will drop a cyl.. Checked plugs #3 was a little rich (oil)..
replaced plug still same then aftewr a while it will go back to all 3 cyl, like a spark problem..Anybody ever exp this problem,,think maybe the wire harness under engine I've heard guys on here talk about that before...Thanks for any info....

when was the last time u cleaned ur power valves, if they havent been cleaned in a while u should clean them.

i experienced a problem very similar to urs where it sound like shes running on 2 cylinders and play with the throttle a bit and she comes back

when the valves havent been cleaned in a while they gum up with carbon deposites and stick

check that first.

Mine did the same thing on a mountain ride last week. EGT on mag cylinder would drop from 1200 to 300 degrees. Let off and get on it again and sometimes it would disappear. Power valves had just been cleaned but were out of adjustment. Pulled the engine for other reasons last night. Found a chipped reed on that cylinder. Not sure what caused the stutter. Maybe a combination of the power valve and reed. Glad to hear that mine is not the only one. Everyone else on the trip thought I was nuts.

Yeh my powervalves were cleaned by dealer in december, I hope they new what they were doing (lol) 35$ a valve and 35$ a carb. How many miles are on your reeds? My sled has just 3000 miles, I only put 300 miles on since,,and it's been doing it from the beginning.

Mine would put out a cylinder on a hard pull, egts would loose about 500 degrees, when I let out of the throttle it would come back. Replaced spark plug boots, problem fixed.

same thing as CACSRX1.....mine would drop the mag side cylinder on long hard pulls......let off and mat it...and it would pick it back up....then drop it again.......had a bad plug boot.....the OEM caps are of poor design (in my opinion)....if you pull the boots apart.....you can see how they use a copper strap across a plastic loop.......when it snaps onto the plug.....the copper contacts the plug on only one side.......my problem was that the plastic had worn/melted......and the copper strap was no longer making a constant connection to the plug itself.....therefore it was losing spark and arching to the head........I replaced all three boots with NGK caps....for less than the cost of replacing ONE from the factory......NGK caps are anywhere from $2.20- $3.00 each......Yamaha wants over $18 for ONE........and the NGK design is much better.....and less apt to have future problem.

ngk caps
