Will a 16" track fit in a '01 sxr tunnel. I'm thinking of long tracking my sxr and was curios if that track will fit.

Thanks

I'm going out on a limb here but i don't think so??????

if the sxr is the same as a mountain max, then it will work and it has been done.(you may have to grind the chaincase bolts a bit)

Yes it will. Some grinding of the chain case nuts/bolts is required. Also if you use Mountain Max rear drop brackets, they will need to be notched or use aftermarket aluminum ones.

MTNVIPER how long have you been running that setup because it doesn't look as if the track rubs at all on the tunnel or any of the bolts by the looks of the edge of your track. There's not a lot of clearance there.
I was thinking of using the Hartman skid relocation kit withe the rail extensions and a 16x1.5" track. I suspect that I will have to use the 8 tooth drivers and was also thinking that I should drop one size on the upper gear. Bottom gear is not an option as I have reverse.

I have about 500 miles on it now. After the first few ride's I was checking for rub marks in the tunnel and on the track. There are no signs at all, so I have pretty much quit looking, except for when I do my normal maintance check over's.
The pic is a little deceptive, the track lugs taper in some. So there is approx 5/16" clearance at the chain case bolt/nut.
You can use 9 tooth driver's, no problem with a 1.5" track. I use 9 tooths with a 1.75" with no clearance issues. Any tunnel or heat exchanger protector's will need to be removed though.
I would gear down one or two teeth for sure. With the added traction, you wont have as much track spin in loose snow!

Mtnviper is that a 136 x 16 x 1-3/4?
thinking of doing something different on mine, but if I go longer
I have relocate or buy differnet extensions

MTNVIPER which track is it that you are using? I really don't want to go more than 1.5" because I still use the sled on the trails and the last guy that I knew that had a 1.75" always had trouble with sliders. I think that the 1.5" is the best for a cross-over sled. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

It's a 136" 16" 1.75" Camoplast, same one used on the special order Ski-Doo Renegade's. The lug pattern is the traditional Challenger pattern. It's kinda the "ol reliable" pattern for mountain use!
I dont do a lot of trail riding, mainly just to get to the good off trail mountain/boondocking stuff. I use ice scratchers, and that takes care of the hyfax wear problems. If I dont use the scratchers on hard pack, the hyfax does get pretty warm. The 1.5" I use to run was a little more trail friendly (without scratcher's)
A 1.75" could be trimed down to 1.5" pretty easy. If you trim off the "teeth" of the lug, it looks like it would take it down to 1.5"

Mnt Viper do you have any full pics of the sled with that track on it just curious of the look it gives you. Im interested in doing something along those lines!! thx

Hey Mnt Viper thats perfect thanks alot. I love that look it's very mean looking I think that's all the inspiration I needed! :kw

I built the tunnel extension and hose cover's out of .062" aluminum. The tunnel extension has appox 2" "kick-up" at the rear, to allow room for the 00 MM rear cooler. And have the bottom of the cooller be flush with the tunnel. I also tried to match the angle of the extension, to the same angle as the lower edge of the seat.

You did a very nice job of that. I was looking at it and was going to ask the same question because I hadn't seen one like that before. I think that I'm going to look into the 16" track option this summer. The only thing is to find a track.
