Ok one of the guys I ride with has a 87 Exciter, we open the trailer this weekend and find a huge puddle of oil under the belly pan. The oil tank does not seam to have lost any oil and the sled starts and seams to run fine. Could this be a crank seal or something else…..

If you didn't notice any oil missing from the oil injection tank, have you checked the chain case oil yet? It would run and start fine, but after any period of use, if there is no oil left in the chaincase, you're in for trouble.

Thanks guys I will have him check the chain case and will let you know what’s up. The trailer is in our storage yard now, so we wont have it out unless it snows like 2 ft, or in May for the clean up and storage.

May be a stupid question, but does he store a bottle of spare injection oil in the bellpan compartment? Lid not tight? I've seen it happen before.

No He does not store any injector oil under the hood, but that was the first thing I looked for when we opened the hood.Skidor said:May be a stupid question, but does he store a bottle of spare injection oil in the bellpan compartment? Lid not tight? I've seen it happen before.
