Getting the sled ready ( 98 V-Max 700 XTC ) for a week at the cottage. I noticed that one of the two wires that connect to the sensor that snaps onto the top of the head is broke off. I beleive that this is the sensor for the temp light. I was to leave tomorrow so would not be able to order one in time. The wire is broke off flush in the sensor. A buddy suggested I use that stuff that you fix your rear window defrost with. Since it is a glue, has copper in it for a conductor he said it should do the trick, well atleast for a temp fix. He said I could not sauder it because it might burn out the sensor. Any help would be great. Diceman

are you talking about the "plug" that snaps onto the senser in the head???
one of thos are pulled out..

Yes I am. There are two wires that go into a plug. Then the plug snaps into the senser that is in the head. One wire broke off right at the plug. You can not even see any of the wire in the plug, it broke off as close to the plug as possible. Diceman

What color wire broke off??

I think the one is just a ground and the other is the "hot" sesor wire.

Take a papaer clip cut it in about a 1 inch piece, shove it down into the sensor, then shove the wire over it. Maxdlx

Blue wire is broke off, black wire is still connected.

Hey Maddix, I am not mechanically inclined at all but where the wire broke off is solid. It looks like sauder but am not sure. The wire of course goes through this. Are you saying the paper clip will just push through the saunder or whatever it is??? Diceman

Its worth a try, that way you can ride with out the light on. try and sharpen the end to a point. i know it is small stuff, but I'd do anything to ride. Maxdlx

A small trim work nail might work too, once it is in th eplug you can tape the wire to it. Maxdlx

The light is not on. Is the black wire ground or is the blue? Without the light on does this mean it is still working?? Some guys say don't worry about it and ride. What do you think?? Diceman

I think to fix it right your going to need to find a plug end from a parts sled
and clip yours off and soder the new one on thats what i would do. but for
now try what Max said..or just don't worry about it,if you got enoght snow
it should be ok just feel the jugs once and awile make shure shes not
getting to hot.

the black is ground blue is hot

Feel the jugs you mean what the coolant resoviour?? Thanks for all the help. the nail did go into the top of the sensor . Diceman

Once the wire is taped on the light should flash on start up. that way you know it works. maxdlx

I have the same problem with broken wires on the same plug. Anybody have one in tact that they want to sell? Its for a 99 MM700. Thanks.

Thanks boys for the help but I am having no luck. Tried the nail but the light did not flash. Tried shoving a wire down from the hole left from the nail but once again no light. I quess I will just have to cross my fingers and drive with no light. Guys around these parts say I should be fine ( they call it an idiot light anyways). They said they have been out with a few guys whose sleds have overheated and no light came on. They also said ( heyyyyy!!!!) that they have never seen a yamaha sled overheat. I should be fine I hope. The extended forecast if for temps about -2 to -6 celcius. When daman said to feel the haed and cylinder to make sure they are not getting to hot what is to hot? I have never tried to feel it before so should I be able to tough it and leave my hand on it for abit?? Thanks again boys. Diceman

Hers one more last chance fix. Look at the plugs on the sended in the head. if it looks like a small conector would fit on them. Cut the end off of your wires and attach the small conectors. just make sure they don't touch. I looked at my viper plug, and i think it would work. Maxdlx

touching your head and jugs(cyl.) it should be real warm (should be able to
hold your hand on it for couple of minutes before it gets to hot)If it running
hot you should only be able to toch it for a second or two before you would
have to move your hand..

At least on my sled thats how it is........
