Is it necessary to run a thermostat on an SRX? My "new to me" sled has been modified but includes a thermostat housing and my friends is modified without one. Is the thermostat necessary?

they put em there for a reason. whats your reason to want to get rid of it? not weight savings I'm guessing

I bought this sled already modified for mountain riding. Aftermarket tunnel and rolled chaincase. Both mine and a friend's have had the cooling system modified the same way. A new plate and hose connection is used where the thermostate was originally housed. The upper hose coming from the engine goes to a filler cap similar to the MM set up. Mine has had a thermostate housing added in line between the filler cap and the engine. My friend's had not. I'm guessing that this mod is common for using an SRX bulkhead and aftermarket tunnel for mountain riding. I agree with you. The thermostat is there for a reason. Don't know why it would have been eliminated on my friend's sled. Engine is on the bench and I am about to re install. Thought if the thermostat was not needed for this application, I would leave it out. It looks a little ugly. My camera is away on a girl's road trip this weekend. I'l post pics Sunday afternoon.
