What throttle assembly will fit curved bars?

In the process of installing f-cat curved handlebars on my SRX, when to my dismay, I found that the stock throttle block does not split apart!!! So the stocker will definately not slide over the curved end of the bar. What are my options at this point??? Any aftermarket throttle blocks that fit yamaha dual cable setups? :o|
 
Cut the curved section off, install the throttle assembly, then reweld the surved section on, install your grips and your good to go. Cheap and easy.

Thanks for the tip. Boomer got ahold of me and said he cut his end off and installed an SLP curved end. I think I'll go that route so I don't have a weld "bump" under the grip. Thanks though.
 
I'm sure it would work if you could spray the backside with some good gunk to stop any rust around the weld. I'd do it but my brake line is already hooked back up and I'm shooting to not have to take stuff off and remove the bars again. If I only had a welding blanket..........
 
I guess I better have another look at my Viper throttle and brake control blocks. I thought they seperated when you removed the bolts. I was planning to buy a used Sabercat handle bar today or tomorrow and do the same mod.

I remember reading an article on Boomer's Viper in Snow Tech that mentioned he used a Firecat handle bar and 5" riser. I am surprised to hear he had to cut the curved bar ends off to make it work. It seems like it defeats the purpose of using an Arctic Cat bar in the first place.

I guess I better take a closer look at this before I buy the AC bars. G.B.
 
If you use the Firecat bar set up as I did you will need to cut off the throttle side hook so that the Yamaha throttle assembly will fit on to the bar. You now have two options to use the right hand hook:

1. Weld it back on.

2. Use an adjustable bar end hook as I did on my set up. I bought mine from Starting Line Products (SLP). Using this bar end hook allows you to set the curve of the hook at your desired angle. It has a bolt that holds it in place.

I used a 5" riser block to get the desired bar height because the Firecat bars are straight compared to Yamaha bars that actually have a built in rise. The brake side of the bars is not an issue because the Yamaha brake assembly comes apart with two bolts that hold the two pieces of the assembly together.

boomer, it does help a lot! so did you use the cat handwarmers afterward?? they fit right over the added hook? which slp hook did you use? thanks a lot, a wealth of information!!!

I used Moose brand handwarmers. You can get them through any Parts Unlimited dealer. They are a pretty generic glue-on handwarmer that are most commonly used on ATV's. I used some epoxy to glue them on to the bar and then you slide a Firecat grip over them. The handwarmers just go on the straight part of the bar where your hand holds the bars, they do not go over the hook. The grip is a pain in the rear to get on the bar over the hook and handwarmer. Using a heat gun helps alot. So does swearing.

I actually had someone else connect the wiring for me on the handwarmers, so I can't give any advice on hooking up the wiring.
