ok i picked up a 98 srx700 cheap this year cause i always liked them and the price was right.. it had a few problems when i got it like the front shock in the rear suspension broke in two and the bottom bar broke right off...so i got that fixed and got out for about 170k of riding this winter which is really jack all... so now that the season is pretty much done and i'm not so gun ho to ride i started taking pieces apart on this sled going over it some more....
now this sled runns very well but feels like its lacking a little..its has a DG can which sounds mean as hell, a roller roster secondary,cold air kit, vforce3 reeds,and a new 1" track premolded for studs(not studded), quick rods,4th wheelkit..
now this sled has ALOT of k 14,333 to be exact!!!
i found that the roller rooster secondays rollers didnt roll very nicely and the roller assembly was cracked in three places
i found that the chain case bearing were toast,the bearing at the speedo had no set screws in it allowing the shaft to grind into the chain case,the primary is really noisy crying for a rebuild making loud clunking sounds as rpms fall... i check compression with 120pto and 130,125 even....so i'm thinking hmm...
i dont know if it has been rebuilt?? if not it runns well for that kinda k..
what else should i be looking at as i go through this...should i throw some pistons in it over the summer??? i'm used to playing with the older stuff this is a learning experience...whats a rebuild usually worth??

wow thats alot...another treat i found when i got this sled i cleaned the power valves to find hey were in upside down and caked wih cabon..

go over the whole sled she is 8 years old and it sounds like it needs a good careing owner.repace all the pipe springs and dounuts,check the rubber mounts the pipes sit on .check the hose that runs behind the recoil to the water pump for wear at the bracket.get a bushing kit for the skid and the clutch. and do the bearing behind the secondary as well.replace the thermostat for piece of mind. rings are likely needed soon.going to be a busy summer but for a few hun it will run like a champ.

i've herd they have some water pump problems how would u know??? what are the symptoms

take the water pump cover off and look at the perpeler make sure its tight thats the only problem I know of .Mine backed off at 10000 kms and started leaking I replaced the cover and perpeler
