is there any way to adjust the timing on a viper....i am getting terrible gas milage and it doesn't matter if I drive 50 miles an hour or 70 or 90....I have had the sled in and out of yamaha and everything has been gone over...no one can figure it out...i'm only gettin 95 miles to a tank of gas....can some one help????

im sure its not the timing. what are your rpms cruising and wot? how is the power? oil useage? exhaust valves cleaned? track too tight?

when you fill up on the trail, pull the white thingy out of the tank and really fill it up. do not do this when trailering or when sitting in a garage. only when you will be imediatley riding. what year, model and mods? might be able to help. ski

i have cleaned the valves....the carburator has been checked and set...track isn't to tight....but it still runs rich....yamaha hasn't figured it our either hoping someone can help

That isn't too bad of miliage I only have around a 100 mile range before the light comes on. IIRC there is still 2 gallons of fuel left when that light comes on.

I dont think its your timming is all stock ? If it is try cleaning your carbs and keeping a loose track , also are all idler wheels bearings ok ? Make sure the clutches are clean and all lined up as well for the track. 192 studs could very well make a huge difference and also riders weight so all in all i think 100 miles with the light just comming on is just about right. I get anywere from 100 to 110 miles when the light goes on and have drining bone dry up to 130 miles. It all depends on many factors incl snow conditions.

100-110 miles per tank and I am as dry as a bone....there is no doubt the sled is running a little rich....there is definetly a babble in it even in good conditions....since then I have dropped the needles .05 and some of the babble is gone but I haven't had the best conditions to test the milage...the thing that gets me the most is I get almost the same milage in almost any condition so I am not expecting much. I don't want miracles but 120-130 miles a tank will save me $40-50 a day up in Val-D'or

Thats what they do on an avarege 110 miles ! Just be thank full , i had a 2000 xc 700 that wouldnt do more than 85 miles !

i have sold two cdi boxes to people with this problem, the timing doesnt advance in the box. try a friends in your sled for a ride and check it out.
