My 97 SX is still pretty much stock. Last year I put a hauk clutch kit on it. A puple primary and helix. I fellow that use to race was looking at my sled and offered some tips. He said my secondary was too loose, saying I should crank up the tension to stay in low gear longer at the start. He noticed my belt was not quite at the top of the secondary. He said I should raise it up to level with the clutch housing.

How is that done? Do I have to buy shims or can I just use some of the (extra I think) shims? What will raising the belt do?
I have not adjusted it yet but as is the clutch kit does not seem to be any faster than before. The only thing I notice is a higher rpm when the belts first grabs. So maybe more belt wear now. An XC I race was just about even with me before the kit and not really any different after the kit, we run very close. I thought I would gain some sled lenghts.
