Why is there no pull cord on 4 strokes?

well im not sure about the phazer but id like to see u try to pull over a 4 cylinder 1000cc motor. i have troble pulling over my 700 some times. exspecaily with teh single layer gasket and shaved head

that would make it harder to start, not easier. the bigger the engines, and/or the higher the compression the harder it is to pull start a motor. you could put one one and lose the battery, but it would be one big PITA!!!

i know i said exspecialy when i shaved the head and put a single layer in not except

I think there is no pull cord because using a pullcord to start an engine is only using roughly half of your available energy to start the engine. Like there is kickstarts on motorcycles with 4 cylinder engines, such as the honda 750. You can use your strength and your weight at the same time on a kick to start the engine while pullstarting, you can only use your strength.

So basically, it is too hard to pullstart a 4, or 3cyl fourstoke yamaha sled, unless your very strong or something. But I cant see the harm of there being an emergency pull cord, like the two strokes have in their tool box, just that it would be much to inconveniant to have to pull it over.

You gotta pull over the crank, camshaft...the entire driveline.

So the only reason is it woudl pull like a SOB, I thought for sure it was because you have to crank the engine longer in order to get it to fire vs a 2 stroke. ie you would need a real long rope. I'm just curious we had a bunch of batteries fail in the bitter cold about 3 weeks ago, and they all had pull cords (all ski doos), just wondering what you would do if a yamaha battery was dead.

Well, I wouldn't wanna do it but you can always find a rope to wrap around the primary to pull start. I can't imagine yanking over a 4-cyl, 11.8:1, 20-valve motor though. Maybe wouldn't be bad if it was warm already.

do the same as you would your car. jump it! even though the batteries are down in there a ways they have jumper leads going to them that are nice and easy to access :)

I have started my 2003 RX1 mountain by wrapping belt arround primary.
NOT A GOOD IDEA. The motor actualy started quite easily pulled easier than two stroke BUT as soon as I pulled and it started to spin the belt jammed in the primary. The motor started ripped the belt from my hands "Lucky I did not have a turn arround my hand" and caused some damage to the interior before hitting the kill switch. I would rather walk home than try that again.
BE CAREFUL

Gezzz..no kidding man!!!!!

They are easy to start with a emergency pull rope, tried it once just to see. When I rode my Rx1 I bought a jumpstarter cable from mountain Performance that plugged into any 12 volt headlight so I wouldn't need a sled with a battery to jumpstart my sled with. After 3 1/2 years and 5,000 miles I never had it fail to start. A pull starter would be a waste of money on a Yamaha 4 stroke.

i would think yami could use the same kinda pull start system that is on there qauds....theres automatic decompression on the grizzlies so its easier to start....
