i just took my sx 700 up for a ride and the oil light seemed to always be on please give me some input on this issue.

what year is it? I know that the 97 SX's had bad oil pumps.

What do you mean it's always on, even when it's full half empty or does it
seem to come on fast when just filled it????
The Level switch in the tank is where I think your problem is.. replace the sending unit.. It will be fine

I mean it uses so much oil the light keeps coming on, we rode 300 mi on saturday and topped it off in the morning and needed to add another 2 quarts to get home, the light does come on when in is down about 2 qts which seams about right, the plugs look good and I guess using to much oil is better than not enough.

if you used 2 quarts for 300 miles, thats about 50 to 1 which seems alright to me -sxblaster said:

the 97's have a lot of problems with the pumps going bad, and when they go bad they go to full stroke and use a lot more oil. If you get an oil pump from a newer sx 700 like a 2000 or 2001 it will use much less oil.

97 600's had bad oil pumps, and were recalled by Yamaha to be fixed. Check your cable length, and let us know what it is at... I run mine at 23mm or so.
