Has anyone gotten rid of the Smart Carb setup and put regular carbs on? What do I need to do so the temp light still works? I have a set of carbs from a 1998 XT. According to the parts list the CDI box is the same between the two. Any help on converting it over would be great.

Well, I'll tell you, it's hard to find info on them. I have them on my MMax and it has always ran great but have also read lots of horror stories about them. Years ago, I compared with an XT and the carbs looked the same. I don't see why you can't unplug all the wires and hoses and be left with a bare carb. Then jet as any other carb.
There are some electronic gadgets that flash on the dash, so I don't know what will happen if you disconnect everything.
Hey I'm just guessing here, but the carbs look no different than any other Mikuni flat slide rack.
Sorry, that probably didn't help much

Yes basically the carbs are the same. Up until last year these worked great. But last year when we were in the mountains I had problems with the right carb over fueling. We switched sensors one at a time until we had problems with the left carb. Once we figured out which sensor it was we replaced it ($120.00) it ran fine the rest of the week. This year the sled ran fine for the first 3 days and then the left carb started to foul out the cyl again. We unplugged all the sensors rejetted it for 8000' and it ran great but the light flashed on the dash. I am sure that someone else has taken these of in the past.

I am also looking for info on this issue. I have smart carb troubles, and I want more info. I think you might be able to just scrap the ecu for the smart carbs...I had mine unhooked and it stiil runs, though poorly. I need help, diagnostics say that nothing is wrong but it will not run right, just poorly.
