the mountain boys on snowest swear by it, but thats mountain use and not really hardpack. i've wondered this myself, but then again i might be studding so i don't need the holes. some have had theirs "ported" for hundreds of miles and nothin wrong. i just can't see it holdin up tho. stud pull throughs tear apart tracks, so why wouldn't intentionally drillin a hundred holes? ya know. i dunno.

When this idea surfaced, people were drilling the area outside the driver windows as well as the area inside. Sure see a lot of tears coming from the outside holes. General chatter now is to leave the outside uncut and just drill the area between the windows. CMX is using 4 holes between the windows. Doo uses two oval shaped holes. Starting to see tracks with 3 holes between the windows and thats likely the blend between advantage and reliability. Don't know what to think about use with big power and strong hook up. I'd bet you're asking for trouble.
Mine is holding up
I have a 136 1 1/4 camoplast w/ 2 studs per rib as well as 2 1" holed drilled per rib. I left the outside completely in tact. It seems to be holding up for hill climb racing which is pretty hard packed in my opinion. Although I wouldn't call 175 hp "big power" either. The track does spin much more freely.
