I was trying out my 98 V-max yesterday on water and it sucks, it lops along like its in rough water and wont go no more than 30 feet then its going down. Anything I can do to fix all of this to make it worth my while to take out in the spring. My old 97 Formula 583 wasnt half as fast and was about twice as heavy with an almost bald track, and it went accross 100 ft+ of water like a charm without any signs of slowing or sinking. Just wondering for any tips to make it better. Thanks

Where are your limiter straps set right now?
I found that when I set mine loose, so I could wheelie, it sucked on water, but when I had them tight, it zipped right along. Also, mine will aways cross water, but doesnt exactly gain speed on it unless im doing at least 110 on the speedo, when im going that fast, it says steady at that speed.
Also, the new Ripsaw works like a charm on the water compared to the old track but both worked the same when up at top speed crossign water.

I haven't had much luck on water with my yamaha's either, I think I'm going to silicone all the seams in the bellypan arround the shock towers and where the bulk head and tunnel connect and give her a try.

get used to it is all i can say mine does the same but if your straps are all the way out for snow leave them that way cuz adjusting your sled just for crossing water is kinda stupid when 95% of the time you ride on snow

I usually don't do this, so I'm no expert here, but last week I ran my MMax (600 with 136" trk) across quite a bit of water.
I have it set like I'm ridin deep snow and it worked fine.
No idea what speed cause I was concentrating on staying afloat. Started with a good blast of throttle but after I got going, I could actually play with the throttle. We did this sort of by accident, and once we started there was no turning back. The longest stretch was about 300 yards. The water was only a couple feet deep at best but talk about increasing your heart rate.

Boat = water...................... snowmobile = snow and ice

Believe me, it felt like 10 miles. I wouldn't recommend it as a fun time. It was down a river bed with sharp banks and no where to get out. When I went around the corner and saw no end, I almost sh*t.
There were a couple scary moments but it all turned out ok.
I think I will be staying on the snow from now on.

Yeah I crossed the red river in winnipeg with about 100 yards open water.... it is deep and was flowing fast.... looking back it was stupid and I won't do it again but yeah talk a heart rate jump.
Side note: my buddy's 04 XCsp is a rocket on water and I am going to tow him waterskiing with it in spring.... wish me luck.

Yeah I wasnt just being stupid on the water, I had a few buddies there and its only about 8 feet deep in the deepest part, I guess I will have to try and seal it up the best I can and tape the vents and see how it goes.
