the srx prefix's are also stamped on the bulkhead. the 78, 79 and 80 all used 8G9 cylinders.
the pancake srx's were 1974 only. in 1975, the yami racer was a liquid cooled GPX

LIQUID COOLED GPX. WOW BIG TIME RARE. DUDE, YOUR RIGHT PANCAKE SRX WAS 1974. NOT MANY LIQUID GPX,s AROUND. ALL THOUGH THERE WAS ONE ON HERE FOR SALE AWHILE BACK I THINK !! 3:16 (tony)

Thanks Tony. What about a case that is thicker then all the rest and has a recoil like the ssr. It looks like the same casting as the ssr was made, but has a RT-439 number. It doesn't look anything like the 76,77,79,80 housings. Thanks again. Dean-o

my 78 has the gromits on the recoil, so that is right. hard to tell what years mine has combined to make one. hood is 78, chassis is 78

So that belongs to a 78 or 79 motor? Then in 80 they went back to the 77 type? What did you mean by (is crankshaft in case?) Wow. I thought that they where pretty much all the same. I had a couple of 79 motors and they had the 77 type housing. Someone must of changed them over to a 80 housing after they broke. Thanks Tony

DEAN, THATS CORRECT. WHAT YA HAVE IS A 78 OR 79 LOWER CASE. NOW WHAT I WAS GETTING AT WAS IS THE CRANKSHAFT THERE WITH CASE. AFEW THINGS TOO REMEMBER. IN 1978 YAMAHA WENT TO LARGER CRANK RODS, LARGER WRIST PINS, AND DON,T FORGET THE LARGER STUD BOLTS. ALSO, IN 1978, YAMAHA ADDED GROMITS TO THE RECOIL AND THE UPDATED CRANK BALANCER TO HELP WITH HIGH RPM VIBERATION. THIS KIT WAS ALSO AVAILABLE IN 1979. NOW, IN 1980, THE VIBERATION PROBLEM WAS OVER BECAUSE THE CRANKSHAFT WAS ACTUALLY ALITTLE DEFFERENT BECAUSE THE OIL INJECTION PUMP DROVE OFF IT. YAMAHA THAN WENT BACK TO STANDARD RECOIL HOUSEING LIKE THE 76/77. ALSO, REMEBER IF YA SEE A 80, LOOK AT THE HOUSEING BEHING THE RECOIL. YOU WILL SEE THE COIL BRACKET THAT WAS USED ON THE 76 AND 77 SRX. ONLY THING IS YAMAHA MOUNTED COIL ON AIR BOX. ALTTLE BIT OF INFO FOR YA !! 3:16 (tony)

Now everthings coming togerther. I have a 79 with that housing. One more question. In 76 they had two different numbers for each motor? RX 338, RX 340, RX 433 and RX 440. WHY? I thought I knew everything about these girls years ago. It started 22 years ago and I'm still learning. Bought my first 80 srx in 1984 and was racing against a 77 and got my butt kicked at the end of the race day in the final. I bought that 77 two weeks later. Thanks for your help Tony and stop by some time. I'm right on your way going up north. Dean-o

DEAN, MATTER OF FACT WAS GONNA HEAD TO THE MOOSE TODAY BUT DECIDED I JUST COULD NOT MAKE IT BECAUSE OF PLAINS TONIGHT. IF I LIVED WHERE YOU WERE, WOW!! I BE THERE EVERY WEEKEND lol !! ANYWAYS, TO TELL YA THE TRUTH, I ALSO HAVE SEEN THOSE DEFFERENT ENGINE NUMBERS. I SEEN THAT ALOT ESPECIALLY ON THE 76 340 SRX. IF YOU REMEBER IN THE YAMAHA SERVICE MANUALS, YAMAHA WOULD TELL YA THE NUMBERS MIGHT BE OFF BY AFEW. ANYWAYS DUDE, HOOK UP WITH MARK AND I THIS SUMMER AY AFEW SHOWS. WE ALWAYS BRING A COOLER FULL OF POPS!!! 3:16 (tony)
