Man, I am so friggin' stupid! I didn't even think!

I took today off to go sledding and I was waiting for my friends to show up. So I decided to put on my new aluminum edge grips. So I was drilling pop rivet holes for my edge grips that will be running along the edge of my running boards and I was feeling underneath with my hands as I was drilling. I had to turn around to drill the last hole, so I started drilling and the next thing green liquid started bubbling out of the hole. I forgot to put my hand underneath to check where the heat exchanger was, ...god I'm so stupid!!!

I must have said about 1000 curse words. I must have set a Guiness record for continous curse words in a row.

My friends showed up and I told them what happened, so they helped me load my sled on the trailer to take it to the nearest welding shop.

My 17 year old daughter is dating a guy who's father has his own welding business. So I talked to him and he said that he can weld it for me, but not until the middle of next week.

So all in all, it's not that bad, ...just missing out on a few days of sledding.

I'm a smart man, but today's just not my day.

We ALL have a story or two to tell like this one.
Sounds like the repair should be fairly simple and cheap.
Don't forget to bleed to cooling system of air after you refill it.
And hey, it least you still have snow.

Sorry, i laughed my a$$ of reading that..but yea that sucks i would look
for a new used one before next year, when it come to that i wouldn't trust
anybody's welding....Plus you got all summer to find one and install it...

Good luck man!!!.. ;)!

If it is going to welded I would think it would have to be removed from the running board. You won't be able to get at it otherwise. As far as trusting the weld, as long as the person welding it knows how to weld aluminum, I would not worry about it. The 1/8 inch hole properly welded will outlast the sled.

I'm not saying it will..........just that i've seen many "GOOD" welds fail on
different things. just my $.02....................

Gotta tell ya, that's something that would happen to me.
Why do these things happen right before you go on, or during a trip?
Never seems to happen when your tinkering with the thing in August!

Usually can expect to pay around 75 each for them and yes that was extremely stupid, but i would venture to guess everyone here has one or two of those stories.Personaly I have 8 t 10 this year alone so don't get rattled you have some catching up to do!!!!
1. bad gas and burn down
2. nitrous bomb
3.tree jump disaster
4.ran into my own truck (twice)
5.ran over two of my newly planted pine trees $$$
6.forgot to bleed system completely after rebuild
7.635 miles on sled and three melt downs $$$
8.missed the road at 95+ and ended up in the swamp sled flew 150 ft with me on it(catails everywhere) even inside boots!!

He said that he could make a bigger hole in the running board to weld the hole in the heat exchanger. It's going to be covered up by the edge grips anyways, so you'll never see the weld. He's a professional and has his own business (started from scratch), plus I know him personally, so I trust him. He said "I want to be there when it's being welded", so I got the owner wanting to be there (he might even do it himself), so I know it's going to be a good job. I'm just missing out on some weekend sledding, could be worse I guess.

put a screw in it with some leather around the head and go ride it, it will be ok. Maxdlx

jv weld is the way to go.tip sled on side and make shure the area is dry than push it in the hole with your finger.you can let it setup and give it a glaze coat for a hard bond.

You could try ebay for the heat exchanger .
