I need help finding the motor serial number for registration. I have looked all over and can't seem to find it. I'm sure that if it had teeth it would bite me but I can't find the thing for the life of me.
Any help?

DUDE, NUMBER ON CHASSIS THAT STARTS WITH 8DN AND THAN NUMBERS SHOULD BE SAME AS WHATS ON MOTOR. LOOK IN FRONT OF YOUR RECOIL. THE NUMBER ON CHASSIS WILL BE ON RIGHT SIDE WHEN YOUR SITTING ON SLED. !! 3:16 (tony)

right side on the engine from the drivers seat. I think you have to take the pipes off.

Most newer yamahas DON'T have matching numbers. But the motor number will match up to the one on the tunnel ( Only yamaha consumer line can tell you). If not, there's a different motor in it. I believe you do have to take the pipes off. once you do call yamaha consumer line and have them match the motor number and the tunnel number to make sure they both match the same sled. Unless you already know for sure!

the motor number is on the cases next to where the recoil mounts, you can't see it because its under the hose that runs along side the mage side cylinder, it doesn't match the body number, they haven't since 96'.

EVERY YAMAHA I HAVE IN MY GARAGE IS A NUMBERS MATCH ENGINE CASE TO THE CHASSIS. MY TWO VMAX 800,s (95-96), MY TWO SRX 700 (02-00) AND MY 79-80 SRX 440s. YAMAHA WILL TELL YOU IN FIRST PAGES OF YOUR SERVICE MANUAL THESE NUMBERS MIGHT BE OFF ONLY BY AFEW. IF THERE IS A HUGE DEFFERENCE, CASE BEEN CHANGED. THE 81 SRX IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE WHERE CRANK CASES WERE UPDATED BUT WERE NOT STAMPED. ! 3:16 (tony)

motor number is the primary ID number as it says in the manual and it is different than the tunnel

yammiegod..I don't need the manual. Yamaha themselves already confirmed the two numbers are different since like 96. As everyone else has stated.

only know what yamaha told me. I'm sure sleds made in other countries such as canada may differ. bottom line is to call yamaha with all numbers and making sure they match the same sled.

Well, sure enough, found the number under teh hose. It was different. It shared a few numbers, but not an exact match.
Thank you all for the help.
Could Yamaha have put that thing in a more inconvenient palce?!
