Crank is toast, do SRX and Viper use same crank?

Looks like my oil injection quit injecting and caused my motor to seize :o| . Motor will turn over by pulling the pull cord but cant pull fast enough to start it. Havent pulled head or cylinders yet but tops of pistons look great so I am thinking that my crank (at the very least) is toasted.

Are viper and srx cranks the same, or if they are not the same is it possible to use a SRX crank instead? What does a used crank go for?

As pointed out in the other thread difference is porkchop vs. full circle.
I've got what should be 2 good out side bearings from when I lunched my mag piston/head/rod. Think thes outer were still good or you could by new. I think I payed 500 for a complete used bottom end and sold the extra set of cases for 125 so the damage might not be to bad. 2/3 of my crank is still good if you have machine shop access and it's the parts are almost local.

Yes, you can use SRX cranks in your viper. Thats what i used. Worked the way it should, until i lost my engine... (not because of the srx crank, because of base bolts were not locktighted, they fell out, caused a suction, air came in PTO side and burnd down, hope this helps!

My motor siezed last week (sled is 03 mtn viper ~1500 miles with slp tripples and mod list below). The low oil light came on for a short little bit (topped off oil pre-ride) but after shutting sled off and restarting the light went away. About 3 gallons of gas later the motor stopped. Have not pulled it apart yet to find total damage but it is very hard to pull over and the tops of the pistons look fine. Oil level in resivoir had barely moved (still able to put fingers into oil up to the second knuckle) after about 5 gallons of gas used. Exhaust side spark plug was not cardboard brown like the others and was gray and noticably hotter than the other two when being initially removed.

Snakebit - The chopper ride was remarkably cheap, it all depends on what type of chopper they are using to get the sled out. I believe the chopper that we used was a R-44 which can carry about 1000 pounds total (pilot, gear, sled, whatever). My first two quotes came in at $2900 an hour and $2000 (plus fuel) an hour. The secratary at last place I called told me about this other place that got her husbands sled out for under a grand so I called them. They had a hourly fee of $550 an hour or for a flat fee they would get it where it died (about 25 miles from their hanger) and drop it off at the parking lot (12 miles from the death site) for $400 if I could meet them there at the dead sled on another sled and help them load it up. Or for $500 a friend and I could go on the chopper ride, help load it up, stay at the death site while they flew the sled out, and get picked up and flown to my waiting truck at the parking lot (all the while doing extremely low altitude, crazy slalom banked out valley and ridge flying at over 150mph). Needless to say I took the $500 (plus tip) route and had a blast.

EDIT: Oops almost forgot, if you ever need to get your sled out or just want to go on a killer sight seeing chopper ride give Alpine Air a call in girdwood, Alaska at 907-783-2360, keith (owner) and martin (pilot) are great guys and are fantastic to deal with.

That is what mine did, about the same thing. I was riding all day long and got about 6 or 7 miles from the truck and it kind of had a little slug, then ran fine for about a mile or so. Then it just quit, like I hit the kill switch, so I let it set for a minute or so and pulled it over and it started right back up no problem. So I ran it about another mile or so and then it started running very rough, so I pulled a couple plug wires while it was running and found that the recoil side piston had zero compression. So I went and got the truck at that point, but I am thinking now that it was to late!!! So I really don't have a clue what happened to it, nothing burnrd a hole in any of the pistons or anything, but the recoil side piston and rings were basically melted together. The middle cylinder got fried also, I don't know why that one went also, but I have got alot of work ahead of me if I am going to fix this thing! The recoil side case is dryer than a bone, it has like dust down in it it is so dry! Let me know what you come up with for the reason of your meltdown! See ya Grizz
